Windsurfing: Alton ressy Wind Direction: NW Wind Stength: F2-4 Surf / Sea State: flat Air Temperature: warm Sea Temperature: warm Weather: sunny Max Speed: 23.56 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 12.3 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
Access to Alton Reservoir was restricted to unloading only, due to
contractors preparing for the Great East swim. The place was very busy with
stands marquees etc @ 9.30 am
Met up with Neil Mike Brian and a few Alton regulars. Wind was good top F4
coming from the top end of the water which is normally a good direction.
Neil and I went big him 9.5 / mini formula me 9.2 145 Patrick F-ride. Neil
shot off the beach and planed all day mainly whilst I did struggle in the
lulls.Wind was up/down but had enough gusts to make it a nice sail. Mike
started on 6m but switch to 7.5 as the wind eased quite a bit from time to
time. Fell in quite a lot when the holes appeared. The Patrick def is not
suitable in fluky winds and the wider mini formula boards are far better on
inland waters. Fell in quite a lot in the lulls and the dam end as the wind
was blocked at that end.
Neil and Mike never stopped planeing! Whilst all the others struggled on
small 6.5 kit. Gusts were OK for them though.
Had a good sail (freeby) but was well happy when wife phoned to say my 5
win world cup accumulator picks and Franky Dettori had won Stradivarius -
which will pay for my upcoming trip to Yarmouth Friday evening horse racing
staying on the race course 4 nights.
Guy was out on his new foil with a 5m sail in little wind and was flying
all over the place – but he had to pump hard to get the initial lift. He
said foiling is in 2 camps. Small sail – which must be pumped to fly but
is easy to handle when flying 3ft up, whilst large sails lift easy but is
hard to control flight when up. Hard decision as normal, cos his pumping
was vigorous and regular – so fitness is key.
Finished off at the spa for spa / meal - so another hard day in the office,
but wind died as forecast a little too quick.
